Maral Azhdari (Artist)

She has graduated from BA (Hons) jewelry and metalwork, Sheffield Hallam University.

Growing up in Iran apart from its limitations has been always a big inspiration to her. Struggling to find her interests and talents, she got in the IUT University in Iran studying civil engineering. Getting not enough satisfaction from what she had been studying, she went to India and start studying painting. She spent 2 year studding painting in Bharati Vidyapeeth University in Pune. And finally came to UK in December 2009. That was probably the first time that she actually stepped into a right path as an artist! Studding Fine Art and Design in Walsall College and its artistic, free and friendly environment led her to find jewelry and silversmithing as a way to express myself.

Coming from a country with a rich background in culture, literature and history and then experiencing different cultures and living in other countries like India and UK, She has always been inspired by different life styles, cultures and beliefs around the world. However always missing home along with the sense of freedom that she says she got from living somewhere else away from home, often drives her toward exploring her routs and background more and more!

Apart from life experiences, she have gained some skills and knowledge, by jumping from country to country, such as, watercolor , pastel, Gouache and oil color painting, drawing, sculpture and little bit of photography.

Getting in Sheffield Hallam university in 2010 provide her an opportunity to actually learn more about design, jewellery and silversmithing. A three year degree course including live competitions, professional studies, art & design history, design for clients, exhibitions, observations & communications, training in computer design programs, skill workshops and exploring different materials.

Her works and designs are more abstract and conceptual. Also, she is not afraid to explore and experiment with different and new materials. She is interested in computer Design program and sometimes finds the feature of program itself as an inspiration for her works, the shapes that you might create on computer that you have never thought of in the real world!

Her works might be colorful, sculptural, big, abstract or totally opposite! Sometimes an idea might get important and she will start to utilize materials, shapes, colors and forms to express it and sometimes the material or shape might speak for itself and be the source of inspiration!
